Their positions are like night and day, but their life stories share a common thread: both men have had hardships in their lives that have partially shaped the way they see the world and their place in it.
Yesterday, A&E released "election update" editions of "Biography: John McCain" and "Biography: Barack Obama." The popular series tries to offer accurate and fair biographies of the world´s most influential and interesting public figures.
"Biography: Barack Obama" follows one man´s meteoric rise from fledgling politician to captivating leader. Before he drew the public´s attention, Obama was the first African-American editor of the Harvard Law Review, a best-selling author, and the third African-American ever elected to Senate. In childhood, Obama was raised by his white American mother after his black Kenyan father returned to his country to work for its improvement, and Obama credits his grandmother as well for helping him learn the values that drive him today. When his mother remarried, Obama moved to Indonesia for several years, where he saw extreme poverty firsthand, something that would lead to a life of community activism and public service. With the chance to become the first African-American President, Senator Obama continues to blur racial lines and boundaries. Through recent updates, go behind the scenes of Obama´s extraordinarily successful primary campaign--in which he raised a record-breaking $58 million in six months--and join his exciting journey toward the 2008 Democratic Convention. Pulsing with the energy of the man himself, "Biography: Barack Obama" chronicles the uniquely American story of one man rising up to fight for what he believes in--and quite possibly, the dawning of a new chapter in American history.
In "Biography: John McCain," viewers get the comprehensive and fascinating story of the life of one man who has faithfully served his country for decades. Shot down in 1967 while flying a mission over Hanoi, Navy pilot McCain became a POW for over five years. After finally returning to the U.S. and serving in the Navy for another eight years, he channeled his incredible life experiences into a flourishing career in politics. From his transitory naval base childhood through the 2008 republican primaries, follow Senator McCain through his student days at the United States Naval Academy, his early political career in Arizona, and finally, through the tumultuous months of his 2007-08 campaign. Perhaps best known for his leadership skills, his fight for finance reform, and his "maverick" political style, McCain has overcome all personal and professional obstacles with characteristic strength, daring, and resolution. Filled with intimate interviews and recent campaign footage, this episode of "Biography" documents the life and political career of one of the most renowned Republican leaders of his generation.
Both DVDs run 60 minutes and are priced at $12.95.

Well KFT, with me retiring from the Army and now working as a civilian for the government, voting anything other than Republican hurts my wallet. Dems always cut money from the defense budget.

I don't get into politics much. I don't consider myself Democrat or Republican. I'll be voting for McCain because I'm don't want a racist/anti-semite running the country. Seriously we wouldn't have elected Clinton if he was in the clan for 20 years. But I guess since Obama stands for "change" it dosn't matter if he was in a hate monger church. Or "who cares if he is racist, George Bush is racist".
I'm all for having a President thats a woman or another race but I think the Democrats chose the wrong Woman and the Wrong Black guy.
If only they had done the recount back in 2000 then we wouldn't be in this mess.

As opposed to conservatives picking the wrong Elderly guy? *kidding*
I'm just pointing out the irony in your post: "That Black guy (with a capital "B".) and "that Woman" (with a capital "W".)
To speak of racism in your post and primarily identify opposing candidates the way you do is ironic. But don't you worry. It doesn't matter who wins. The corporate lobby has way more political influence than voters do and luckily the status-quo will be maintained regardless of who wins. Welcome to "democracy".
Let the media circus continue! They even sell DVDs now!
