On December 7th, the Arclight Cinema played host to a special screening for the just released, extended "Sin City" DVD. Members of the press (meaning myself, fellow DVD Town staffer Erik Martinez, and guest Nick Sherman) were invited to an early reception at the upstairs cafe bar. Directors Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino were in attendance along with actress Carla Gugino, make-up artist Greg Nicotero, and members of the special effects team. There was plenty of drinking and hobnobbing going about.

Afterwards, we attended a press-exclusive Q&A with Rodriguez, Tarantino, and creator Frank Miller. Much like the Three Musketeers (or maybe the Three Stooges), the trio happily reminisced about working together and you could easily tell they have become fast friends.

The general public was let in and some of the new special features were shown on the big screen. First was "How It Went Down", a featurette with Frank Miller as he discusses how he was convinced to allow Rodriguez to turn his baby into a feature film. This was followed by "15 Minute Flick School" as Rodriguez gives away the secrets of his magic. What surprised me most during this segment was that many of the actors never even met each other on set. Computer effects and clever editing make it seem they were all together. Next up was "The Long Take" as we get an inside look at Tarantino's directing process. Finally, "All Green Version" was the entire film without effects and speeded up. This final segment really accentuated the hard work done to bring the world of "Sin City" alive.

The night ended with another Q&A as the trio was joined by Greg Nicotero. For those wondering about "Sin City 2", it will be comprised of "A Dame to Kill For" along with new stories, never seen before, written by Miller. Miller joked that he's having a hard time drawing Nancy again without picturing Jessica Alba. Any other information wasn't forthcoming, nor was there anything said about Tarantino & Rodriguez's upcoming collaboration, "Grind House." Writer/Director Kevin Smith surprised everyone by popping up after Rodriguez joked that a fellow audience member resembled Smith.

Good times were had and we got to shake hands with Robert Rodriguez, who in my humble opinion, is one of the hardest working individuals in the film industry. Thanks to DVD Town, Buena Vista, Arclight Cinema, and all those involved for pulling off this event.
