Film Synopsis:
THE AMITYVILLE HORROR

"Terrifying! All the tingles and terrors of a classic haunted-house story." - Variety

FOR GOD'S SAKE, GET OUT!
If these walls could talk… the screams would wake the dead. Based on the chilling best-selling novel, THE AMITYVILLE HORROR is a "spooky study in psychological terror" (Los Angeles Times), and throws open the doors to your deepest, darkest fears. There's no place like home… for bloodcurdling horror!

The Long Island colonial house on the river's edge seemed perfect. Quaint, spacious and affordable, it was just what George and Kathy Lutz had been looking for. But looks can be deceiving… and their new dream home soon becomes a hellish nightmare as the walls begins to drip blood and satanic forces haunt them with sheer, unbridled evil. Now, with their lives -- and their souls -- in danger, the Lutzes must run as fast as they can from the home they once loved… or fall prey to its terrifying power!

James Brolin, Margot Kidder and Academy Award® winner Rod Steiger fall prey to the powers of darkness in this spine-tingling tale of a house possessed by unspeakable evil. One of the most talked-about haunted-house stories of all time, The Amityville Horror will hit you where you live. For George and Kathy Lutz, the colonial home on the river's edge seemed ideal: quaint, spacious and amazingly affordable. Of course, six brutal murders had taken place there just a year before (November 1974), but houses don't have memories… or do they? Soon the Lutz dream house becomes a hellish nightmare, as walls begin to drip blood and satanic forces threaten to destroy them. Now the Lutzes must try to escape or forfeit their lives - and their souls!

Film Synopsis:
CARRIE

"An all-stops-out scare-show!" - Los Angeles Times

Based on the best-selling Stephen King novel, CARRIE "catches the mind, shakes it and refuses to let it go" (Time magazine). Starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie (in Oscar®-nominated performances), and co-starring John Travolta and Amy Irving, this ultimate revenge fantasy is "absolutely spellbinding" (Roger Ebert), "outrageously witty" (Los Angeles Times) and one of the all-time great horror classics!

At the center of the terror is Carrie (Spacek), a tortured high-school misfit with no confidence, no friends… and no idea about the extent of her secret powers of telekinesis. But when her psychotic mother and sadistic classmates finally go too far, the once-shy teen becomes an unrestrained, vengeance-seeking powerhouse who, with the help of her 'special gift,' causes all hell to break loose in a famed cinematic frenzy of blood, fire and brimstone!

Good one John.

Have any here seen those 'lenticular' edition DVDs, with covers that have an alternating change of the image? > CLICK HERE for the Carrie Lenticular DVD (you'll notice that the 'before' shot is not Sissy Spacek, but some other female stand-in.

Also, here's one for The Amityville Horror > CLICK HERE

(page must fully load before you see the changing cover effects)

Fox and MGM are releasing some more in a few months, like for Species, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), etc. Anything to influence a consumer's purchase consideration.

I can't wait to replace my DVD with this Blu-ray. I have the original DVD release, and it's one of the crappiest transfers in my collection.

that's funny, i recently rented the movie and watched it again.

I haven't seen the movie for a long time and i have to say i was impressed by de palma's camera work and choice of lighting. I say impressed because i usually don't like de palma.

What really got me thinking of updating to BLU though was the announcement of "One flew over the cuckoo's nest" being released on blu-ray. Great flick
